A workshop from Once Upon a Canvas is a great way for nurseries to fund raise – a proportion of funds raised from the sale of the artwork goes back to the nursery or playgroup.

We work on canvas with small groups of children (6- 8 in a group). This generates a huge amount of fun, but also enables children to experiment with different tools and techniques using their senses and imagination to the full. By taking part in our workshop, the children in your nursery gain the experience of "working alongside artists and other creative adults" as recommended in the Early Years Foundation Stage Practice Guidance. Please ask us if you would like more information - the workshop meets many aspects of EYFS effective practice.

How It Works

We provide you with leaflets and an order form to hand out to parents and collect back in. Our display stand gives parents the chance to see a sample canvas. We telephone you a few days in advance to collate the bookings. Please note, a minimum of 6 children taking part is required for the workshop to proceed.

On the day, we set up and run the session with the children in an area suitable for messy play. A workshop with 6-8 children lasts approximately 45 minutes. All we ask is that we have at least one member of nursery staff on hand to assist us with the children and to ensure they are comfortable. Each child takes home a certificate to remember the day.

After the workshop, parents can view the canvas their child has worked upon before they place an order. Prices for framing start at £18. Alternatively parents may take home the unframed canvas for an additional £5, although there is no obligation to buy.

We return to collect the canvasses for framing a few days later at your convenience. Finished canvasses are returned to the nursery in 2 weeks time to pass on to the parents, together with your cheque for commission on orders for framing we have received.

Once Upon a Canvas staff have enhanced disclosures from the Criminal Records Bureau, copies of which are available to you on request.
